The new Russian Orthodox Church on South Calgary required a campus that will accommodate community needs for both the young and growing congregation and the residents of Midnapore. The campus should be located around the historical church and provide institutional, commercial, retail, residential and medical services.
The site is unique, given its historical significance with St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church as provincially protected heritage resource, and site’s general geographic location in close proximity to major public transit infrastructure (Fishcreek Lacombe LRT Station).
Because of the Client’s desire that the completed complex to be distinctly Russian Orthodox in character, the project required an in-depth understanding of Russian Orthodox culture as well as a detailed review of the Municipal Heritage preservation and protection of historical sites documents.
Careful attention was given to the mix of programs and services to be accommodated and the issues pertaining to transportation, utilities, circulation and parking. The campus consists of four buildings and parking structure totaling 80,00 sq. ft. located on a 0.9 acre site with extensive parking capacity, columbarium, outdoor plaza, patios and treed walkways.

  • Total Gross Area: 80,000 SF
  • Contraction Cost: $30,000,000
